VictoryXR Financial Literacy Course
This comprehensive Financial Literacy course is designed for 9th and 10th graders to build essential money skills through fun, relatable, and real-world scenarios, exceeding national financial literacy standards. Module 1: Why Money Skills Matter Explores the core foundational concepts of financial literacy and why they are relevant to a student's everyday life. Module 2: Smart Spending, Goals, and Everyday Money Choices Teaches the difference between needs versus wants, the concept of opportunity cost, setting short- and long-term financial goals, creating a spending plan, and starting to save. Module 3: Paying Yourself First Focuses on the importance of savings, teaching students practical ways to save and demonstrating how paying themselves first impacts their future financial health. Module 4: Earning and Understanding Income Students learn how to earn income, read a pay stub, understand mandatory taxes and deductions, compare various payment methods, and apply these concepts to first jobs and side hustles. Module 5: Managing Credit – "Borrowing with a Plan" Covers the fundamentals of credit, including what a Credit Score (the "Financial GPA") is, how interest works, the difference between good debt and bad debt, and how to avoid the "Free Money" trap of credit cards. Module 6: Everyday Money Decisions Students practice making smart money decisions in daily life through mini-challenges and check-in questions, reinforcing skills like goal setting, needs vs. wants, opportunity cost, and basic budgeting in relatable contexts like shopping and social plans. Review Module A comprehensive and fun financial literacy review experience for 9th and 10th graders that ties together all major topics they have learned: earning money, budgeting, saving, banking, credit, debt, investing, insurance, taxes, and smart consumer choices. Students will practice real-world scenarios they can relate to, like getting a first job, buying a phone, or saving for a car, so they can see why these skills matter right now and not just in the future. Final Practical Test A practical, scenario-based financial literacy final test that helps students see why every concept they learned truly matters in real life, from budgeting and saving to credit, investing, taxes, and protecting themselves from scams. Students will apply their knowledge to realistic teen and young adult situations so they can feel confident using money in the real world.
