A math tutor your students can talk to, 24/7.
Students get stuck at 11pm, long after the tutoring center has closed. With HoloTutor they ask out loud or type, and the tutor talks the step through with them on a real whiteboard. Then they ask the next question. It’s a conversation, not a pasted-in answer.

The gateway courses, built for you.
We’re building complete courses for the math that decides whether students stay enrolled, so your faculty won’t have to. They’re rolling out now. Anything you need sooner, faculty can build in minutes from their own slides and notes.

Teach it your way: faculty can edit any lesson to match their syllabus, or add lessons of their own.
A chat window isn’t a tutor.
Your campus ChatGPT or Claude license is a good general assistant. But it was built to answer whatever it’s asked, and a struggling student will ask it for the answer. HoloTutor was built to teach.
When a student is stuck
A general AI assistant: Hands over the finished answer when asked. Study modes exist, but a student can switch them off.
HoloTutor: Teaches the idea out loud, step by step, and the lesson checks understanding with questions as it goes.
How it explains
A general AI assistant: Paragraphs of text and notation in a chat thread.
HoloTutor: A spoken conversation. The tutor talks a student through the math on a whiteboard, and the student can talk back at any step.
Where learning starts
A general AI assistant: A blank prompt. The student has to know what to ask.
HoloTutor: Ready-made lessons with practice questions, in an order that builds each skill on the last.
Staying on course
A general AI assistant: Will talk about anything, and follow a student anywhere.
HoloTutor: Stays on the lesson the student is taking, with content safeguards built for students.
What faculty can see
A general AI assistant: Nothing. Each conversation is private to the student.
HoloTutor: Classes, assignments and dashboards that show who is working and what students are asking.
Support for every student, in every section.
Built for gateway math: developmental math, college algebra, precalculus, calculus and statistics, where one missing prerequisite turns into a dropped course.
A conversation the moment students struggle
The moment a student is stuck is the moment they’re most likely to give up. They can ask HoloTutor right then, out loud or typed, from the lesson they’re in. It answers out loud, walks through the reasoning, and takes the follow-up question too. No appointment, no queue.
Fills gaps in prerequisite math
A calculus student who never really learned logarithms can go back and learn them now, without falling behind in the course they’re taking.
Reduces pressure on tutoring centers
Routine questions get answered at any hour, which leaves your tutors free for the students who need a person.
Scales support without adding instructors
A lesson is built once and reaches every section of every course. More students doesn’t mean more tutor hours.
Very affordable, with a quick ROI
A lesson is generated once and then taught to every student, so you’re not paying to produce it again for each section or each student. That’s what keeps a campus-wide license affordable.
Help that keeps students’ hours, not office hours.
Office hours and tutoring centers serve the students whose schedules line up with them. Commuters, working students and night owls fall through the gap. HoloTutor covers all 24 hours.
- Conversational: students ask out loud, and the tutor answers out loud
- Taught on a whiteboard, step by step, like a good TA
- Checks understanding as it goes, with questions built into the lesson
- Runs in any browser, with nothing to install
Evenings, when a lot of homework actually happens
Live on your campus in three steps.

- 01
Pick the courses
Turn on the gateway courses as they roll out, or have faculty build their own from the slides and notes they already use. Any lesson can be adjusted to match a syllabus.
- 02
Students open it anytime
From a link or your LMS, in any browser. Students learn with an avatar tutor on a whiteboard, and can ask questions whenever they like.
- 03
See where they’re stuck
Instructor dashboards show who is working, on what, and the questions students are asking, so class time goes to the hard parts.
See HoloTutor in action.
At Harvard, students learned twice as much from an AI tutor.
A randomized controlled trial in Harvard’s introductory physics course compared a purpose-built AI tutor with the same lesson taught by active learning in class. Students using the tutor learned more than twice as much, in less time, and said they felt more engaged and more motivated.
- 2×
- median learning gains, more than double in-class active learning
- 49 min
- median time on task, against a 60-minute class
- 0.73–1.3
- standard deviations of effect size
- 194
- students, randomized so each learned one topic each way
The tutor that worked wasn’t a chatbot. It walked students through a structured lesson one step at a time, made them do the thinking instead of handing over answers, and worked from expert-written solutions. That’s the design HoloTutor is built on.
Kestin et al., Scientific Reports, 2025Questions we hear often
Does HoloTutor just give students the answers?
No. When a student asks, HoloTutor explains the reasoning out loud on the whiteboard, not just the final answer, and its lessons stop to check understanding with questions along the way. That structured approach is the one behind the Harvard study above, where students with an AI tutor learned more than twice as much.
Can students actually talk with it?
Yes. HoloTutor is conversational. A student can pause any lesson and ask a question by voice or by typing, and the tutor answers out loud while it works on the whiteboard. Then the student can ask a follow-up, or pick the lesson up where it left off. In Study mode, the whole session is a back-and-forth on the topic the student brings.
Which math courses does it cover?
We’re building complete courses in Developmental Math, College Algebra, Precalculus, Calculus I and Statistics, and they’re rolling out now. In the meantime, faculty can build a lesson from their own slides or notes in minutes. Faculty who want the tutor to follow their syllabus exactly can edit any lesson or add their own.
We already pay for ChatGPT or Claude. Why add HoloTutor?
Those are general assistants: a student gets a chat window, and a finished answer if they ask for one. HoloTutor is a tutor. It teaches structured lessons out loud on a whiteboard, checks understanding as it goes instead of just handing over answers, stays on the course, and shows faculty what students are working on and asking. The Harvard study above tested exactly that difference: a tutor built on how students learn, not a chatbot.
How do we create our own lessons or courses?
Any instructor can. Open the studio, describe a topic or drop in your slides, a PDF, a Word document or your notes, and HoloTutor builds a narrated whiteboard lesson with practice questions. You can edit every line of the script, every board and every question. Then collect lessons, quizzes and flashcards into a course and drag them into order. Nothing is public unless you choose to share it.
What languages does it tutor in?
Students can ask a question in their own language, typed or spoken, and HoloTutor answers in that language, both aloud and on the board. It detects the language on its own, so a Spanish question in the middle of an English lesson gets a Spanish answer. Instructors can write lessons in other languages too, and one-click translation of existing lessons is on the way.
Does it replace our tutoring center?
No. It takes the routine questions and the after-hours load, so your tutors can spend their time on the students who need a person.
How is it priced for an institution?
Institutions license seats in volume. See the Pricing page, or contact us at info@holotutor.ai for a quote sized to your enrollment.
